Core Systems: Life Support
Document ID: SYS-LSS-102. Maintenance protocols and technical specifications for the Class-7 Environmental Closed-Loop System.
System Specifications
- System Type: Closed-Loop Atmospheric and Hydration Recycler
- Baseline Power Draw: 850 Megawatts
- Peak Power Draw: 1.5 Gigawatts (Full Deck Purge)
- O2 Conversion Rate: 4,200 Liters per cycle
- Water Reclamation Efficiency: 98.5%
- Operating Pressure: 14.7 psi (Sea Level Standard)
Routine Maintenance Schedule
Stick to this timetable. Skipping these steps leads to toxic air and sick crews.
- Daily (0400 Station Time): Check atmospheric mix telemetry. Carbon dioxide levels above 0.5% need immediate manual venting. Make sure the humidity stays locked at thirty percent.
- Weekly: Inspect the primary algae vats in Sector 4. They get murky fast. If the pH drops below 6.5, dump a buffer packet into the intake. Agitate the mixture for ten minutes.
- Monthly: Flush the blackwater recycling lines. You really don't want to skip this. The smell alone will clear a deck if the backflow valves stick open.
Carbon Core Replacement Protocol
- Isolate the local deck ventilation trunk from the main grid.
- Bleed the pressure from the housing unit. Watch the gauge hit zero before you touch the clamps.
- Pull the saturated carbon core. It will be heavy. Don't drop it on your foot.
- Slot the new core and secure all four locking pins. Listen for the physical click.
- Re-pressurize slowly. Watch for seal leaks with your flashlight.
WARNING: Never bypass the secondary scrubbers during a core swap. Toxic buildup happens faster than you think.
Common Faults and Troubleshooting
- Error Code 202 (Pressure Drop): A micro-fracture somewhere in the sector. Check the seals on the nearest airlock first. Reapply the polymer gel if you see any cracking.
- Error Code 311 (Hydration Impurity): The UV purifiers are probably burned out. Swap the bulbs. Don't drink from the tap until the diagnostic runs completely clear. I learned that the hard way.
- Error Code 88 (Fungal Bloom): The moisture traps in the vents are overflowing. Get up there, drain the pans, and spray industrial fungicide across the grates. Wear your rebreather when you do it.
